Gearbox SWOT: Opportunities
Simple SWOT analysis continues! To be honest, this is starting to feel like a chore and I could easily drop it and not come back to it. I wonder if this is a common issue with SWOT in other organizations. Ah well. Pressing on regardless…

Opportunities
Strengths are internal, as are weaknesses, but opportunities shift the focus outward in consideration of the market. It’s easy for me to prattle on and on about all the potential I see in Gearbox and uniting global communities, but as I’m growing tired of this SWOT thing, I’ll try to keep this brief.
- Partnership/Sponsorship
- Merchandising
- Community
You might notice these are different from the list in the picture up top. Well, as I’m talking about internal versus external, it hit me that things like multi-platform/pursuit/national are more like strengths, as that’s one of the things that sets Gearbox apart from other sites in my opinion. Getting back to external opportunities, I have a plan in mind for getting some site sponsorship lined up and some merchandising running to generate a little capital which I hope will allow me to do more for the community. I don’t see Gearbox financially enabling me to do community development full time, so any money the site brings in will be reinvested back into the community.
Any other opportunities out there I might be missing? What would you do with Gearbox if you ran the show?
Up next – threats. Ooo… scary.
