Individuality…

We forfeit three-fourths of ourselves in order to be like other people.

Books and their covers, right?  Who is the fastest?  Who is most prepared for what lies ahead?  You can’t tell without popping the hood and evaluating what lies beneath.  Does the brightest candle burn the shortest (or does it just get pulled over more often)?

Whoever said “It’s lonely at the top,” didn’t do it right.  To truly succeed, one should contribute to the community in order to keep competition thriving.  After all, without competition, what motivation would there be to improve?

Those who would turn their backs on change will one day find their parking lots empty.  The herd moves in mysterious ways.  Keep a vigilant watch and an earnest ear.  The competition is getting closer.  They watch and they learn.

People are talking.  Be sure to listen and participate in the discussion in turn.  Do not dismiss those who do not offer praise.  Instead, consider them most valued.  Learn from mistakes.  Prove the lessons learned moving forward.

Keep more doors open than closed.  Invite outsiders in.  They will become evangelists to others.  Form a close-knit team, then cross the threshold into the realm of family.  Become a single unit, united in purpose and direction.

Change is the only constant.  Things are not always as they appear. Books and their covers, right?  Who is the fastest?  Who is most prepared for what lies ahead?  You can’t tell without popping the hood and evaluating what lies beneath.  Does the brightest candle burn the shortest (or is it just parked in the very back row looking pretty)?

  • You make a really good point with those pictures, and somewhat of a sore point with me :-) My very last auto purchase replaced the pearlescent white car I had had for 15 years, and I had decided the next would be pearlescent orange, yet when it actually came down to placing the order I opted out and ordered Daytona gray, just like everyone else :)

So in terms of what you wrote about what does this mean? I certainly did not give up my individuality, however it would seem I wanted to go with the flow, send a signal out that I was with everyone else rather then 'go it alone' or 'do my own thing" . When it comes right down to it, I look for a balance between being an individual and being part of communities. So true what you say about the "herd" and being ever vigilant and I do see that maintaining individuality is a way to combat herd mentality. Thanks for giving new insight. @CASUDI
  • This was a very raw post, @CASUDI. It started off about individuality, but then transformed into something else. Most of the time, I will edit, re-edit, and then edit again to put my very best foot forward, but sometimes it's not the best thing to do.

I think the point is that, while we might all be able to appreciate the steps taken by those who live in the spotlight, not everyone is interested in being center stage. Just as long as we're on stage, right?

Also, I'm thinking there aren't a lot of models offered in that orange. Curious what your new purchase was? There's nothing wrong with going gray, either. It's far easier to keep clean than, say, a black or white car, so in a sense, it's actually a smart choice of color!

  • This was a more then 10 year dream, hanging on the garage wall http://twitpic.com/ezzgj and after lots of hard work this is the the "go with the flow " REALITY
    http://twitpic.com/ezzlh ...... still stands out in a crowd :-)

I don't think it was "RAW" post just lots of threads that might have made several posts. It's that first image of yours that drew me in...... @CASUDI
  • @CASUDI Wow! An R8! I've never seen that other Audi before. What is it? I have to learn more about it!
  • The Orange car was a concept car, which in fact was not as close to the R8 in design I think, as was the brushed aluminum concept car displayed at Pebble beach a few years prior, called the AUDI Avus. BTW if I designed my ideal car from scratch, it would be the R8. What would yours be?
