Lithe, Elegant, Swift – The 2010 Jaguar XJ
What a stunning vehicle! I really do love what Jaguar’s been doing with the styling language on the front ends of their latest models. While that grille is certainly a bit bulldog, it works brilliantly with the feline grace of this, the biggest cat of them all.
There isn’t much I could say about this car that you probably haven’t already seen a dozen times elsewhere on the web. In fact, these are the same press photos being used by hundreds of other websites like this one, but that doesn’t make the XJ any less spectacular. This is just my own, personal take on what I feel is an inspired release by Jaguar. Perhaps you feel the same way?
Spend a couple minutes reading about this car on the web you’re bound to hear us talking about those painted D-pillars. They force a double-take, don’t they? Your eye moves from one end of the car to the other, but always comes back to that part of the car. Is it necessary? Does it make sense? We’ll never agree, but I’m finding that this car is growing on me by the minute. I only came across the official release a couple hours ago, but I think I’m falling in love.
The new Jaguar XJ is a big cat and, like most cats, it’s graceful and elegant from every angle. You know it’s got to be powerful and capable of ripping it’s prey limb from limb after a short print, but such athleticism is entirely discretionary. Despite it’s size, it manages to look lithe and elegant. Even stationary, it exudes a feeling of motion, of swiftly flying low across the countryside, devouring miles of open road that would be a tedious chore in lesser machines. Here is a wonderous flying machine for the road.
Now imagine yourself spending time in that interior. First and foremost, this is a car, not a rolling disco or office (100% digital, TFT instrument panel aside), but who’s to say you can’t have your cake and eat it too? Surely this is the sort of environment that would impress potential clients all too familiar with the interiors of Town Cars, Cadillacs and cookie cutter BMWs!
I don’t, personally, have a pressing need to emotionally close deals with my car, but I can definitely imagine myself in that seat, behind that wheel, with 1200 watts of Vivaldi being delivered through the Bowers and Wilkins sound system for miles on end. A shame we’re not likely to get the 40mpg+ diesel powerplant here in the States, as that would definitely reduce the amount of time required outside the luxurious confines of a new XJ.
I think this new, 2010 Jaguar XJ is simply marvelous in every way. It’s a “fastback saloon” done right. It’s lithe, it’s elegant, and it’s no doubt swift. Let the sleeping dogs lie, I say. Cats are far more interesting. Here’s to the new king of the jungle.
More details on the 2010 Jaguar XJ can be found on CarThrottle.com or the Jaguar UK website. Thanks for stopping by!
